Description:
Multi-stemmed mallee to small tree, 4-10 m high. Bark mostly smooth, light grey to cream, ribbony throughout. Some larger mallees may have rough bark for up to 3 m. Thick, 5-10 cm long by 1-2 cm wide. Prolific, diamond-shaped buds, rounded to pointed caps about equal to conical base. Clusters of white flowers. Winter to spring. Relatively large, rounded, prolific, 0.8-1.5 cm diameter, with 3-4 valves flat to slightly domed, level with or just above the thick rim. Throughout the year.
Natural Distribution:
Distributed throughout southern coastal regions on sandy soils over limestone including the Eyre Peninsula, Yorke Peninsula, Southern Lofty, Murray region and South-East. Extends into Vic and WA.
Notes:
Fast growth rate. Suited to coastal areas but will not tolerate saline soils.
