Description:
Tall, spreading, often spiny, grey-green shrub to small tree, 2-5 m high. Phyllodes variable, grey-green, stiff, 1 central mid vein, 2-5 cm long by 0.2-0.8 cm wide, often with thorns on the branchlets. Cream to pale yellow, globular flower heads, solitary to paired or on racemes in leaf axils. Late winter to spring (August to September). Flat (raised over enclosed seeds), light brown, papery pods, 4-8 cm long by approximately 1 cm wide. Spring to autumn (October to March).

Natural Distribution:
Common to the lower rainfall (125-500 mm) northern parts of SA including the northern Eyre Peninsula, northern Murray region and Northern Lofty. Scattered occurrence as far south as the Adelaide Plains. Also occurs in WA, NT, NSW and Vic.

Notes:
Can form dense thickets particularly on alluvial plains. Seed is used in the Bush Food Industry. Seedlings grow rapidly. This species is readily eaten by livestock so when it is seen in paddocks there is a distinct browse line just above the height stock can reach.
