Erect, rounded, compact, prickly, small to tall shrub, 1-4 m high, with dense needle-like leaves. Sharp, rigid, narrow-cylindrical to 3-angled (triangular in cross section), needle-like, 3-12 cm long. White to cream flowers, clustered in leaf axils. Late spring to summer (late October to January). Woody, beaked, with smooth surface or dotted with small black warts, approximately 2 cm long by 1 cm wide, containing 2 flat, winged, tan-coloured seeds. Throughout the year.

Occurs on sandy to occasionally heavy soils throughout most agricultural districts of SA (absent from the Northern Lofty). Extends into Vic. Common to woodland and mallee areas.
