Description:
Dark green, perennial, mostly leafless shrub, 1-3 m high, with many tangled, rigid, twiggy branchlets. Generally absent on older branchlets. When they occur, leaves are small, linear-lanceolate and rarely persist for long. Small, cream to yellow flowers, solitary or in clustered spikes. Throughout the year. Small, dry fruiting perianth to 5 mm long. Not applicable, most likely to be propagated from cuttings.
Natural Distribution:
Occurs on low lying, poorly drained areas of floodplains and swamps and in all agricultural districts of SA. Extends into all mainland States.
Notes:
An important habitat plant for waterbirds and wrens. Requires flooding every 2-8 years to maintain health. Medium to high tolerance to soil salinity. Previously named Muehlenbeckia cunninghamii. Commonly propagated from cuttings.
