Mallee vegetation occurs throughout the Northern and Yorke region from the Coastal White Mallee (Eucalyptus diversifolia, Eucalyptus rugosa) of the southern Yorke Peninsula through the once-extensive mixed mallee of the northern Adelaide plains and mid-north (eg. Eucalyptus gracilis, Eucalyptus phenax, Eucalyptus incrassata), to the pockets of diverse mallee that occur around Quorn through to Hawker and east around Orroroo (eg. Eucalyptus socialis, Eucalyptus dumosa). To the untrained eye the mallee may look very much the same but in actual fact there is a huge variety of plants in our mallee associations which are distributed according to subtle variations in topography, soils and rainfall.
