Description:
Erect, bushy, bright green shrub to small tree, 1-4 m. Shiny green, alternate, glabrous, 5-10 cm long by 1-2 cm wide, margins entire, pointed tip, linear-lanceolate in shape. White flowers, usually 5-lobed, with purple spots inside, protruding stamens. Late winter to late spring (August to October). Succulent, globular drupe, 6-8 mm in diameter, turning from green (immature) to a fleshy purple (mature), drying to a brown-black skin surrounding a hard, stony shell, usually with one developed seed. Late summer to autumn (February to March).
Natural Distribution:
Commonly occurs on sandy soils of semi-arid river floodplains and mallee regions in most mainland agricultural districts of SA (absent from the South-East). Extends into all mainland States.
Notes:
Fleshy fruits eaten by birds. Previously named Myoporum acuminatum. Commonly propagated from cuttings.
