Description:
Multi-stemmed mallee to occasionally a small tree, 3-8 m high, with sparse crown supported by slender branches. Rough, grey, flaky bark towards the base, upper branches smooth. Glossy, oil-dotted, lanceolate, 5-15 cm long by 1-2 cm wide. Buds with a blunt rounded cap that is narrower and equal to or longer than the rounded base, in groups of up to 13. Clusters of cream flowers. Variable, mostly winter to spring. Rounded, 6 mm diameter, fragile needle-like valves extending beyond the level of the rim (breaking off with age). Valves inward spreading when open. Throughout the year.

Natural Distribution:
Widely distributed throughout lower rainfall regions, often on shallow limestone soils, in all agricultural districts of SA. Extends into WA, NSW and Vic. Common to mallee areas.
