Common Name: Spiny Wattle

Description:
Small, erect, leafless, spiny shrub, to 1 m high. Phyllodes not present. Branchlets cylindrical, erect, grey-green in colour, lightly streaked, ending in a sharp point. Bright yellow, stalkless (sessile), globular flower heads along branchlets. Late winter to spring (July to October). Small, curved (becoming twisted), brown pods, 2.5 cm long by 3 mm wide, constricted between enclosed seeds. Summer (December to January).
Natural Distribution:
Distributed throughout all agricultural districts of SA across a range of rainfall zones (300-1200 mm). Extends into western Vic and NSW. Common to woodland and mallee areas.
Notes:
May be confused with Acacia continua.
