Botanical Name: Acacia calamifolia

Description:
Green, rounded, medium to tall bushy shrub, 2-3 m high, with slender branchlets. Phyllodes narrow, cylindrical, flexible (not rigid), straight to slightly curved, 3-11 cm long by 1-5 mm wide, 1-veined, tapering to a curved tip. Yellow, globular flower heads, solitary and paired or in short racemes of 2-4. Mainly spring (August to October). Long, narrow, straight to slightly curved pods, 8-15 cm long by 5 mm wide with strong constrictions between the enclosed seed. Summer (December to January).
Natural Distribution:
Occurs in all agricultural districts of SA (annual rainfall 200-700 mm). Extends into Vic and NSW. Common to mallee areas.
Notes:
May be confused with Acacia nematophylla which occurs in coastal areas of southern Yorke Peninsula or A. euthycarpa which has straight-edged seed pods without strong constrictions.
